Building the Great Cathedrals
Published in Hardcover by Abradale Press (October, 1998)
Average review score:

Building a Gothic library? Make room...When people discover I'm a veteran of the stone carving trade, they sometimes ask for the behind-the-scenes story. "Building the Great Cathedrals" tells it. The tools, the trades, the intrigues, the budget concerns, and the people are all present and accounted for; along with immersion into the dizzy, circus atmosphere of a cathedral construction site. If you wonder why so much passion was invested in completion - by those who would never live to see it - here's the answer. With hundreds of lush, full-color photos and medieval illuminations of the period. If you're building a personal collection of Gothic architecture books, make room.

The Bungalow: The Production of a Global Culture
Published in Paperback by Oxford University Press (October, 1995)
Average review score:

Thorough and comprehensiveThis is a ver thorough and comprehensive work. It traces the evolution of the bungalow back to the 1600's in India and shows how the bungalow evolved into the twetieth century house style that Americans have come to know and love. While the text is exhaustive, the photos are old reprints and in a few cases are hazy. The book adresses the evolution of this building type not so much from an architectural stancem but more from a sociological view point. This is a scholarly work that is intened for the serious student of vernacular architecture. It is not a 'stlye book' nor is it a source for decorating.

Burgundy
Published in Hardcover by Faber & Faber (September, 1982)
Average review score:

The best Burgundy book for the general aspects of the regionMr. Hanson's coverage of the producers is both shallow and too biased on his accidental trade relations. His appellations survey is as adequate as almost every other writer's. But his in-depth general chapter (which IMHO could and should be published as a 300 pages book of its own) is without parallel! Simply a must for any Burgundy lover and for anyone seriously interested in this intricate wine region.

Bushmasters: America's Jungle Warriors of W W II
Published in Paperback by St Martins Mass Market Paper (January, 1989)
Average review score:

A Legacy to RememberAnthony Arthur depicts the journey of the Bushmasters in WWII with great detail and passion. This book takes those of us from our everyday lives, and provides an oppurtunity to relive the incredible journey of the "American Jungle Warriors". This book includes pictures, and stories of men who died or survived the courageous journey of the Bushmasters. Arthur provides great visual tools and details to provide you with an understanding of the timeline and location of the Bushmaster's journey. I was almost in disbelief as a read the detailed descriptions and stories as to what these soldiers endured and the courage they displayed and the conditions of which they survived. Some of the stories in this book will leave you feeling disturbed. However, I feel that the horrors of what these men survived is necessary to grasps the extent of their courage and dedication to our country. This book is tribute to the men who served our country, and those that died for our country. I recommend this book to anyone who searches for an understanding and appreciation for our country's history.

The Bushmen
Published in Hardcover by New Holland/Struik (April, 2000)
Average review score:

Incredible photography that is soul piercingI was with Peter Johnson on a recent trip to South Africa. He is a remarkable man and an outstanding photographer. He has done so much for the economy of South Africa and is so savvy to the opportunites and plight of these people. The topic of the Bushmen and its documentation will astound you. The photography leaves you with the feeling of the dust on their feet and the soul piercing look in their eyes.

Byrne
Published in Paperback by Carroll & Graf (October, 1998)
Average review score:

Burgess's Byrne great versifying funHow can I describe "Byrne," a book by Burgess / (Anthony)? Putative novel, his last (O sorrow!). / 'S about one Michael Byrne, a "defective lecherous / Dreamer," all in ottava rima, (borrowed / From Ariosto), but which, to be sure, here is / Livelier and more fun than a carload / Of television sitcoms, no matter they / Be on Sunday, Wednesday or Saturday. / More Rabelaisian and Rabelais, / Out-Byrons Byron's endless long "Don Juan," / Satire, outrageous rhymes, in many ways / Better than Happy Hour,a ten-cent brew one / Downs; a treat for e'en those who're too laz- / Y or wary of poetic doin'. / Relax, sit back, you've got a lot to learn / From this wild poetic novel 'titled "Byrne." / "Why choose this agony of versifying / Instead of tapping journalistic prose?" / Burgess asks, but we know he's simply trying / To have some fun, which, as everybody knows, / 'S not easy in this oft PC-ifying / World where everything--and nothing--goes. / Burgess shows that poetry can be fun, / Hilariously accessible to everyone. / Well p'rhaps not everyone. Halfway through he / Briefly changes to a different scheme, / A loftier prosody, more chewy, / Used by dreary Spenser in "Fairie Queene" / (Which we all suffered through in academe). / Meanwhile Tim and Tom appear, reprehend / Vanished pater, etcetera. I deem / "Byrne" versifying fun, it recommend. / It's one of those, you hate to see it end. ---James Hursey

Capture of the Twin Dragon (Bollback, Anthony G. Jack and Jenny Mystery.)
Published in Paperback by Toccoa Falls College Pr (January, 1998)
Average review score:

The kids love it!!I've been reading this book aloud to my niece and nephews and they simply love it! They love the mystery and the suspense, but also enjoy hearing about children like themselves who love and trust in the Lord. The first book "Smugglers" is a good intro to the characters and I recommend reading them in order.
